THL publishes first results from health survey among higher education students: income difficulties increased

The National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) has begun publishing results from its health survey carried out among higher education students. On 1 October, THL published the indicator results from the survey’s Elinolot (‘Living conditions’) domain. The results show that income difficulties among higher education students have become more common in the past three years. On the other hand, most higher education students consider their daily life to be very safe.

A press release presenting the results is available on the THL website (thl.fi).

Two phenomenon reports are also available on the THL website (in Finnish):

The Finnish Student Health and Wellbeing Survey (KOTT) produces versatile data on the health, wellbeing, study abilities and health services of students and any changes that have occurred in them. The survey was conducted in spring 2024 and was answered by 3,600 students aged between 18 and 34 from higher education institutions all over Finland.

Further results and survey domain reports concerning areas such as health, mental health and student healthcare will be made available during the autumn. The FSHS will be sharing them on its communication channels.

Lifestyle results will be published during a national network event

To discuss the results from the KOTT survey, the THL together with the FSHS will be organising an event titled “Valtakunnallinen verkostopäivä korkeakouluopiskelijoiden hyvinvoinnista muuttuvassa maailmassa” (‘National network day dealing with the wellbeing of higher education students in a changing world’). The event will be held on 25 November 2024. Survey results relating to exercise, sleep and weight will be presented during the event.

The event is open to all those working with student wellbeing, and registration is now open.

Remote participation is also possible. You’ll find details about the programme and the schedule on the event page.
