Services for SAMK Huittinen students to be provided at FSHS service units

Starting 27 September 2024, oral health services within student healthcare will be provided at the FSHS’s own service units for students of the SAMK digital campus, also known as ‘Kuninkainen campus’, in Huittinen. The provision of general and mental health services was transferred from Huittinen to FSHS service units in 2023. There are some 600 SAMK students in Huittinen, but less than 10 of them have used oral health services in Huittinen each year. The other students have visited the FSHS’s own service units in other locations.

Until now, oral health services have been provided for local higher education students by Oral Huittinen, which will complete any ongoing treatment cycles. Students will be able to contact the FSHS as before using the national Self online service or the telephone service line.

“The change is being made because the SAMK Kuninkainen campus in Huittinen is a so-called digital campus, meaning that students don’t actually study in Huittinen itself. As a result students’ use of FSHS services in Huittinen has been minimal and they have attended appointments at FSHS service units in other locations instead. In future, the students of the Kuninkainen campus will be able to attend in-person oral health appointments at the FSHS’s own service units, of which there are 14 across Finland”, says FSHS Regional Director Piia Niemi.

Kela, which is responsible for organising student healthcare for higher education students, has approved the FSHS’s service network changes for 2024.
